Fans hoping for a new album from Everclear might need to wait a little bit longer, with the group’s frontman Art Alexakis announcing his debut solo album today.

Back in 2015, alt-rock legends Everclear offered up their latest album, Black Is The New Black. Their first record in three years, fans were undoubtedly hoping that a new record might be following soon after.

However, with a 20-year tour of So Much For The Afterglow making its way to Australia in 2017, an endless appetite for touring, and a few health issues, the band appear to have been a tad on the busy side in recent years.

Now, frontman Art Alexakis is gearing up to release a new album, but this time he’s going it alone.

Titled Sun Songs, the new album will be unleashed on October 11th, and see Alexakis pushing a few boundaries, and including some influences that fans might not expect to hear, ranging from classic country to hip-hop.

“For the most part, it’s an acoustic singer-songwriter type of album,” Alexakis explained, noting that previous attempts at a solo record had instead become full-band affairs. “It’s not about making another Everclear record; it’s about doing something that’s just me.

“I’m pushing my ability and pushing the envelope, and having fun at the same time. I’ve always wanted to do something like this.”

This news comes following a rough few years for the rocker, revealing back in May that tests following a car accident in 2016 had resulted in the diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis.

“I was sent to see a neurologist, who did a ridiculous number of tests – more MRI’s, a spinal tap, over fifty blood tests, and numerous cognitive and balance tests,” Alexakis explained.

“After receiving the results, he told me that I have a form of Multiple Sclerosis (RRMS), and that I have had it for anywhere between 10 to 20 years.”

“So, if you see me stumbling…sweaty, looking both tired and anxious at the same time, maybe a little more confused than usual, or forgetting lyrics yet looking happy (which is weird for me), please know that I have not fallen off the wagon,” he added. “I am just learning how to be the new me.”

Sun Songs is set to be released in October, with a number of tour dates across the US and UK being announced around that time. No word when or if Alexakis might return back to Australia to grace us with his presence once again.
