Young Sydneysider, Nikki Thorburn, is already miles ahead of the pack, having recorded her debut EP, To The Place, with The Cat Empire’s Ollie McGill last year. With quaint video clips and dreamy press shots, Thorburn exudes a lovely vibrance that is a far cry from the blasé ‘tudes so often exhibited by her peers.
To the jaded ear, even three and a half minutes of dainty piano and a throwback to a time that never was (for most of us, anyway) can start to seem a touch too twee, particularly in the absence of Thorburn’s vocals towards the end of the song. But if you’re one to see pink and not red, this jazzy songlet might just make you want to close your eyes and dream of a time of tea parties and smoking rooms.
