The festival season gets that much more exciting today, with the announcement of the first batch of acts to appear on the bill for the Falls Festival and Southbound Festivals, with all acts confirmed to appear at the Lorne and Marion Bay legs of the festival, as well as Perth, to help ring in the new year with all the usual musical goodness.
It’s a banner year for Falls as well, with the Lorne site celebrating its 20th anniversary; while Tasmania’s Marion Bay location celebrates its 10th year. There’s true reason to celebrate too, following news earlier in the year that the festival site was rescued by a rich philanthropist from its financial struggles.
So start planning your New Years Eve with all the requisite camping gear, confetti and – now that we have the lineup – travelling playlists. Here we go…
Headlining the lineup will be those fabulous (Erykah Badu-baiting) freaks, THE FLAMING LIPS. Joining them will be BEST COAST, BEACH HOUSE and the dubstep artist that isn’t universally polarising, SBTRKT.
Joining them for the party will also be UK’s THE VACCINES, our own BOY & BEAR, US mash-up artist SAMPOLOGY and – because every festival lineup this year needs a touch of the nostalgic 90s – COOLIO. No doubt so he can rile the crowds with “Gangsta’s Paradise”
Promoters for the festival have said they’ll be announcing more of the lineup as it’s confirmed, and with over 80 acts to be included in the final bill, today’s list is merely a handful of what we can expect.
