Yesterday, the internet was abuzz with rumours of new Green Day music, but alas, there is no such thing coming our way.

The reports were credible, the sources justifiable, everything seemed in line for new Green Day music. Fans have been waiting since 2016 for something new, and finally, it seemed we were going to get it.

However, as most things go in the age of the internet, it seems all of our hope was but a misunderstanding.

The announcement that had fans clambering to find their old copies of 1994’s Dookie can be heard below.

Yesterday’s Kerrang! Radio announcement:

Sophie K, the shows host, can be heard saying “I said I wanted new Green Day, and she went ‘Yep, it’s coming. July 19th, 5pm!”

It all seems awfully legitimate, with even a date and time being set in place for the bands first new song since 2016’s Revolution Radio.

Since then, however, Kerrang! has updated their statement, saying that new music is not planned for the band in the near future.

Just to double down on our pain, Green Day reps have also come out of the woodworks, stating “Definitely no Green Day single any time soon.”

However, it’s pretty difficult for fans to not expect something to come soon, with all the evidence pointing towards it.

Late last year, Billie Joe Armstrong confirmed on Instagram that he was writing songs for the band.

So new music is definitely in the works, which is a definite plus for us, but it isn’t coming anytime soon.

Currently, fans are in a weird state of limbo, where we should be excited, but not too excited. Anything could happen from here on out.

It’s best we keep our eyes peeled and our ears ready, as Green Day prepare fresh new songs behind the scenes for us to enjoy some time in the far future.
