It’s been a few years between drinks, but pop-punk icons Green Day are reportedly gearing up to release some new music next week.

It’s pretty hard to believe that 2019 marks 33 years since Green Day first formed, but you certainly can’t say the band have been lazy in that time. With 12 albums to their name, countless singles, and numerous sold-out tours, you could probably say they’re something of a success.

However, since 2016, fans have been left wanting when it comes to new music. Despite releasing a book, teasing a 25th anniversary tour of Dookie, and founding a coffee company, things have been quiet on the Green Day front.

Now, it appears as though we’re about to receive some fresh tracks as early as next week.

Check out the announcement on Kerrang! Radio:

Speaking on Kerrang! Radio recently, breakfast host Sophie K played a snippet of Green Day’s ‘Warning’ before revealing that new music from the group would be arriving at 5pm on July 19th.

“I said I wanted new Green Day, and she went ‘Yep, it’s coming!’,” Sophie explained.

For those playing at home in Australia, that means you’ll have to get up closer to 3am on Saturday, July 20th to hear the first taste of new Green Day since 2016’s Revolution Radio.

Of course, the prospect of new music shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise to fans, considering that Billie Joe Armstrong revealed last year that he was back writing new music for the band.

While nothing major had been announced since then, Armstrong has been keeping rather busy collaborating with Morrissey, and also performing in his new group The Longshot, which has released an EP and album since last year.

At this stage, Green Day themselves haven’t confirmed the existence of forthcoming music, but at this stage, it seems as though we’ll receive their first new tune in just over a week.
