Held on Newcastle’s foreshore up in the New South Wales Central Coast, Fat As Butter has been one of the better Australian music festival success stories to emerge in recent years. Today sees the official announcement of this year’s lineup which, as the press release promises, contains “something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.”
Held across four massive stages featuring a selection of international and local acts, Fat As Butter also spans an electic array of genres from rock to hip hop, dance to pop; and with this year’s bill – plenty in between.
Topping the bill is The Voice judge Joel Madden getting back to his chart-beating, pop punk band Good Charlotte, joining them will be fellow American rockers Yellowcard; while the UK’s Mystery Jets are also jetting over for the NSW event. There’s a collection of homegrown treats to savour as well, with 360 and Grinspoon leading a pack that includes The Rubens, off the back of their national sell-out tour as well as Brisbane guitar aces Hungry Kids of Hungary and Melbourne provocateurs Hunting Grounds.
The dance fans won’t be disappointed either with the inclusion of a whole sonic buffet of DJs, with party-starters Yacht Club DJs, Bombs Away and Rebecca & Fiona all providing the necessary vibes.
For the nostalgia enthusiasts, there’s even the interesting inclusion of Eiffel 65 of “Blue (Da Ba Dee)” infamy, and British dance outfit N-Trance who gave the world their take on “Stayin’ Alive” and “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?”
Tickets are $99 (+b/f) and the festival is open to ages 15+.
