Every day we’re faced with an onslaught of album announcements so we thought we’d start sharing the soon-to-be-released love by putting together a list of the most notable and exciting album announcements on a weekly basis. This week’s features blues icon Mavis Staples, a live album from Ball Park Music, Nuggets re-releases, film pioneer come music maker David Lynch, and more.
Mavis Staples
One True Vine
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, and civil rights icon Mavis Staples will release her follow-up to You Are Not Alone, later this month. The new record finds Staples traversing darker terrain with stark, acoustic arrangements and the most honest, unvarnished vocal performances of her career.
With some new compositions written specifically for Staples by Jeff Tweedy and Nick Lowe the record is the most personal and emotional statement from the icon.
Recorded at Wilco’s studio in Chicago, the album features Jeff Tweedy on nearly every instrument except drums, which were played by Tweedy’s 17-year-old son Spencer.
