We’re now well into the second half of 2018, and that means just one thing: this year’s edition of the Meredith Music Festival is only a handful of months away.

As always, Aunty Meredith has delivered a stunning lineup full of some of the biggest musical acts from both here and abroad, but with such a huge lineup, how do you know where to start? How do you know which acts are the must-see artists on this year’s bill? And most importantly, which acts do you namedrop to convince your mates to come along?

Well, we’ve taken a bit of a look at this year’s lineup and picked some of the greatest artists on the bill that make this year’s event one you will not want to miss.

The Breeders

One of the biggest alternative rock acts of the ’90s, The Breeders were a musical supergroup of srts, being formed by Kim Deal of the Pixies and Tanya Donelly of Throwing Muses. After a pretty decent debut, the group took the world of rock by storm when they released 1993’s Last Splash, featuring tracks like ‘Saints’, and the influential ‘Cannonball’.

Now, ten years on from their 2008 reunion, The Breeders have recently released their fifth album, All Nerve, and they’re ready to show it off to an eager crowd. There will be no doubt why The Breeders are such an iconic alt-rock group when their set kicks off this December.

Billy Bragg

Billy Bragg has done it all in his 40 year career. From standing up for the rights of workers in England, being given the title of a modern-day poet, and even teaming up with Wilco to bring unheard lyrics from folk icon Woody Guthrie to life, there’s nothing he hasn’t done.

No stranger to Aussie shores, this musical icon is set to bring a typically stunning set to this year’s Meredith crowd. With his lyrics that cut straight to the core of the human experience, and music so bold that its hard to imagine just one man is playing it, seeing Billy Bragg live is something that all music fans should do once.

Sampa The Great

When you listen to the music that Sampa The Great makes, it’s easy to see why she’s considered one of the best and brightest musicians around. Backing her stunning poetry with the sounds of hip-hop, soul, gospel, reggae, and delivering performances so stunning that they belong in an art gallery, Sampa The Great is well and truly one of the greats.

After having stunned the music world, and winning the Australian Music Prize, with the amazing BirdsAndTheBee9, Sampa The Great is set to show an eager Meredith audience why she is one of the most dominant forces in Aussie music today.

The Aints

Back in the mid-’70s, a group of Brisbane musicians formed a group called The Saints, and helped to pioneer the genre of music that would soon become known as punk. As the years went on, the group lost founding guitarist Ed Kuepper, who decided to form a new band in the ’90s called The Aints, with the intention recapturing the vibe and sound of The Saints’ early days.

Having revived the project again in recent years, Kuepper has been doing the rounds, and deafening fans everywhere he goes with his distortion-laced sets that leave ears ringing after every single show. If you’re looking for an education in Aussie music, then The Aints are one band you’ll definitely have to check out at this year’s fest.

Yaeji

Yaeji might be a relative newcomer to the world of music, but her sound and style is rooted in genres that are well before her time. Delivering hip-hop flavours with house influences, with the style and vibe of a punk musician, Yaeji captured the attention of the music world last year with her breakthrough single ‘Raingurl’.

Visiting Australia later this year to give fans a stunning look at why she’s one of the fastest-rising stars in music, you can be sure that Yaeji is going to deliver a set that will leave you completely stunned.
