Lovers of Australian music once again proved their patriotism in the form of a sold out Corner Hotel band room, welcoming to the stage repeat Hottest 100 offenders, Flight Facilities.
Emerging from a heavily misted curtain and donning their marquee aviator uniform, the duo quickly found their feet on the illuminated platform, commissioning their attractive indie dance vibe which spread across the floor.
The pair’s rendition of recent Daft Punk monster-hit ‘Get Lucky’ broke up a combination of heavy dance beats and intelligently placed breakdowns, ensuring little was to be to be predicted by audience members. Accompanying this, a sculptured light spectrum shrouded the venue, adding to the aura.
The arrival of ‘Foreign Language’ stepped audience participation up a level as the twosome combined their flowing mix with the vocal tailoring of guest vocalist Jess, who also provided an outfit reminiscent of high altitude travel.
The addition of the petit songstress added yet another fascinating element to the set and what would mark the half-way point of the performance. As the vocalist left the stage, the applause that eventuated was audible briefly before the producing pair kicked off a catchy melodic creation, displaying their intelligent set construction abilities.
Both performers were evidently enjoying their stopover in Melbourne, synchronizing their subtle onstage grooves, which those being demonstrated in the audience.
The introduction of their latest Triple J triumph ‘Claire De Lune’ not only generated a sense of bliss, but also, a sense of unknown as to who would take the lead role in the vocal department.
Fans were well and truly treated by the appearance of Melbourne indie pop identity Owl Eyes (AKA Brooke Adamo) as she warmed into the role originally conceived by Christine Hoberg. The live rendition granted Owl Eyes a platform of vocal expression, as the arrangement placed particular emphasis more on the vocal melody than the recorded form.
Again, the heavenly mood at the conclusion of the vocal cameo was maintained by the prolonged outro of the obvious fan favourite.
The concluding track for the intriguing set was catchy grooved up beat, ‘Crave You’.
Returning to the stage, and to the delight of audience members, Owl Eyes once again led crowd members in a swayed sing-a-long, breaking up the previously beat focussed tracks.
The visible grins emerging from behind the production table again reinforced the cheerful vibe that had spread across the band room for the last two hours.
Concluding the flawless delivery of the night, the pair returned for an encore of one of their favourite tracks – ‘Love Is In The Air’. To the surprise of many, mainly the overwhelmed security, the stage was quickly swamped with euphoric fans, all politely busting their own unique dance style on stage.
What in theory was a nightmare scenario for security, turned out to be nothing but a display of pure thrill by fans, thanks to a flawless, creative and performance from Flight Facilities.
