2016 was undoubtedly the year of Flume, the Sydney bedroom-producer-turned-global-export won eight (!) ARIA Awards that year for his second LP Skin, including Album of the Year and Song of the Year, and had its lead single ‘Never Be like You‘ go 7x Platinum.

The track then topped the triple j Hottest 100 in 2017 and we guess that was when Harley Streten decided to leave our airwaves on a high.

Proving that 2019 could very well make up for the horrors of 2018 (do we need to read out a eulogy for those we lost?), Flume has offered a glimmer of hope on Instagram.

“Cheers 2018. Next year I’ll be back in your life, I promise,” Streten wrote from Byron Hinterland on the last day of the year.

We should be used to Flume’s fair-weather relationship with the limelight though. After breaking into public consciousness in 2011 when he uploaded the song ‘Possum’ to triple j Unearthed, and releasing his self-titled debut LP the following year, Flume disappeared.

A #1, 2x Platinum-selling album was enough to keep fans sated for a full three years until the release of Skin; but we’re done waiting.

Flume is yet to offer any further teases of new projects or music, but we’ll keep you posted.
