Nick Oliveri, founding member of Kyuss and former member of Queens of the Stone Age was arrested in Los Angeles on Tuesday night on suspicion of domestic violence. He’d become embroiled in a five-hour standoff with SWAT officers at his Hollywood apartment, according to police.
Oliveri had the cuffs snapped on him about 10:30 p.m. after LAPD officers knocked down the front door of his home. A police spokesperson said that police had feared earlier that he’d taken his girlfriend hostage, but several hours earlier the woman walked out of the house.
Police said the not so happy couple got into a fight Monday, but things kicked off again when Oliveri’s missus returned the next day to collect her belongings. A police SWAT team who arrived at the scene became embroiled in a tense stand off, before Oliveri released his partner and then eventually surrendered himself. Cops searching the house found a high powered rifle which formed part of the charges that saw Oliveri banged up in jail before being release on $100,000 bail.
Police are said to still be establishing what went on and are investigating whether Oliveri was on drugs at the time. Following his tenure in seminal Californian desert rockers Kyuss, Oliveri joined front man Josh Homme in Queens of the Stone Age in 1998, before being fired from the band in 2004.
