A new interview from Frances Bean Cobain has sparked rumours as to whether the 26-year-old has signed her first record deal.

Over the last year, Frances Bean Cobain has been teasing her followers with snippets of her foray into the world of music. Having posted a number of covers on Instagram, the daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love has also shared a few originals as well.

However, while some of these videos have been inexplicably scrubbed from her socials, fans have been wondering whether or not Cobain will be releasing an album at some point.

In an interview with E! earlier in 2018, Cobain explained that she’s not too sure what the future holds for her in terms of being a creative.

“With regards to music, I don’t want to pigeon hole myself and say I am a musician or a visual artist because I feel like it’s all encompassing and I feel like every bit of my art is related to the other,” she said.

“So do I want to pursue my music further and see it come to fruition and see something further and see something palpable? Absolutely.”

Back in July though, Frances Bean Cobain found herself in Ireland, where The Business Post reported that she had “signed a two-album deal with Columbia records”, while also noting that “her first album is due soon.”

Oddly, this information wasn’t reported anywhere else, with only The Business Post’s initial story being cited during mentions of the news.

Now, as Spin reports, Cobain has given a rather noncommittal reply while being asked about the topic.

Speaking on RuPaul’s What’s The Tee podcast recently, Frances Bean Cobain was asked whether there was any truth to the story she had signed a record deal. However, her reply was a rather unenthusiastic “I can’t speak of those things at the moment.”

Of course, such a reply seems to imply that maybe she has signed a deal, though she’s not allowed to talk about it just yet. Or, there’s every chance discussions are being held as we speak about which label will be her home in the future.

Elsewhere in the interview though, Cobain explained that her musical style was “like if PJ Harvey and Fiona Apple got into a fist fight that was broken up by Dolly Parton and Jeff Buckley is crying in a corner.”

While we don’t know when we’ll be getting an official release of music from Frances Bean Cobain, such a description has certainly piqued our interest.
