Although both NSW’s transport minister and the actual venue themselves have confirmed that Frankie’s Pizza By The Slice will be demolished for a new metro station, some loyal & dedicated Frankie’s fans aren’t willing to give up on their fav joint and have launched a petition to keep it open.

The petition was posted to change.org and the description has such a nostalgic vibe that it’ll send you straight off to the dark depths of fun, otherwise known as Frankie’s.

“If anyone has ever walked down those stairs into the distinct smell of Frankie’s, a mixture of pizza, sweat and rock and roll, you’d know that you’ve instantly walked into a special place. This place is an icon and a place where musicians (local and international) have come together to share a round,” the petition begins, and amen, sista.

While the transport minister did confirm that they are working together with Frankie’s to find the venue a new home, the heroic petition creator who goes by the name of Daniel Heagney believes that this simply is not good enough.

“We can not simply just move Frankie’s to a new venue, we must preserve the venue it has become. A venue like this can not be made overnight, it has created it’s own character, it’s own uniqueness and has drawn in people from around the world from all walks of life together around music (and apple whiskeys).”

Though ol’ Heagney may be grasping at straws with this one, considering basically everyone who has any say in the matter has already confirmed the demolition of Frankie’s, we can’t help but support his gallant attempt to preserve everybody’s favourite dive bar.

Heagney set the goal of the petition at a very achievable 5000 signatures, and as of now, 3372 people have signed the petition.

It seems as though Heagney isn’t the only Frankie’s patron passionate about keeping the spot open, there have been some very strongly worded responses in the comments section of the petition.

“Because we don’t need more bullshit failed transport schemes. This is one of the last pieces of rock and roll we have in this city! And a fucking good escape for us all!” Said one user.

“YOU CANNOT GET RID OF FRANKIES FOR A FUCKING METRO STATION! Grow up,” read another post which were assuming isn’t ironic?

The bar is currently located on Sydney’s Hunter Street which is smack bang in the middle of Sydney CBD, it’s – apparently – also smack bang in the middle of where the city wants to put a brand new train station.

News broke over the weekend that Frankie’s is set to be demolished for a Metro West project (new train station) which is set to start in 2022 and will cost a whopping $27 billion.

You can sign the change.org petition to save Frankie’s here.
