Scottish indie-rockers Frightened Rabbit have released a free download of December’s star-studded tribute concert to late member, Scott Hutchison.
In May of 2018, Frightened Rabbit revealed that founding member Scott Hutchison had passed away. Having gone missing the previous day, Hutchison’s death was not treated as suspicious by police, though his passing resulted in an outpouring of support from those that knew him.
In the months since Hutchison’s death, the likes of Death Cab For Cutie honoured the late musician with a cover of ‘My Backwards Walk’, while a tribute concert had also been organised.
On December 5th, 2018, a number of Scott Hutchison’s closest friends and admirers appeared at Brooklyn’s Rough Trade, with the likes of Death Cab For Cutie’s Ben Gibbard, Kevin Devine, Julien Baker, The Hold Steady’s Craig Finn, and The National’s Aaron Dessner all paying tribute to the late artist.
Now, the entire show has been offered up for free download via the band’s Soundcloud page.
In a statement accompanying the show, Frightened Rabbit noted that “this night was not a night of mourning or a night of sadness but a celebration of an extremely special person and the music he created.”
“Scott inspired everyone who met him, heard his lyrics or saw his art,” they continued. “We feel his loss every day but we are all in this together and we carry on strengthened by the support of the people involved in this recording and those around the world who have been affected by Scott’s passing.”
“We want to encourage people who listen to this to laugh, cry, hug and sing in your worst Scottish accent at the top of your lungs and keep the spirit of Scott alive in all our hearts and all our voices.”
The members of Frightened Rabbit also explained that if fans wish to donate to The Scott Hutchison Fund, a mental health charity set up in Hutchison’s honour, they can do so by visiting this website.
In related news, Frightened Rabbit made their return to the live stage on December 8th, performing at a charity festival in Glasgow, backed with a number of different musical guests. At this stage, the band have not made any further announcements in regards to their future plans.
