Fans have come together to help the family of a man who passed away during a concert of Swedish band Ghost last week, raising more than $8,500 in the process.
On Thursday, May 31st, 52-year-old Jeffrey Fortune collapsed during the intermission of Ghost’s performance in Milwaukee, in the US state of Wisconsin. Fortune sadly passed away, with the band having cut their concert short out of respect.
Fans soon floated the idea of putting together a GoFundMe campaign in order to help raise money for Fortune’s family at this time. Soon, Ghost fanclub, Ghost American Ministries, took on this task and officially started a campaign on Saturday, June 2nd.
“We at Ghost American Ministries wanted to come together to help out the family of Jeffery Allan Fortune during their unfortunate time of loss,” the campaign description reads. “On May 31st, during the Ghost concert, Jeff collapsed and later passed on. He was our brother in Ghost. He was a great guy and a huge musician fan.”
“He will be missed greatly by his family, friends, and fellow fans. So lets come together, together as one, and show our love and support for the Fortune family in their time of grief.”
“He was an amazing person, artist, poet, musician as well as a tortured soul- yet he kind with a bright shining soul,” the post continued. “He saw beauty in the darkest of places and often visited/dwelt in those places at times. He alternately referred to himself as “Hell on two legs, walking” and also “a child of God”.”
After just a handful of days of being open, the campaign is well on its way to reaching its goal of $10,000, with the total amount of funds raised at the time of writing standing at $8,871, following support from over 400 fans.
