It’s been a mere 24 hours since Kanye West pulled a Kanye West criticising Beck for winning Album of the Year at yesterday’s 57th Grammy Awards, and already the internet has gone into a meltdown, with just about any and every person voicing their opinions on his actions.
Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson is particularly riled up over West’s comments, and has taken to her personal Facebook to write an op-end hitting-out against the ‘New Slaves’ rapper after he told the media that “Beck needs to respect artistry and he should’ve given his award to Beyonce” as Inthemix writes.
Manson opines, “Dear Kanye West, It is YOU who is so busy disrespecting artistry. You disrespect your own remarkable talents and more importantly you disrespect the talent, hard work and tenacity of all artists when you go so rudely and savagely after such an accomplished and humble artist like BECK.”
She continues, “You make yourself look small and petty and spoilt. In attempting to reduce the importance of one great talent over another, you make a mockery of all musicians and music from every genre, including your own. Grow up and stop throwing your toys around.”
Before nailing West “You are making yourself look like a complete twat Ps.I am pretty certain Beyonce doesn’t need you fighting any battles on her account. Seems like she’s got everything covered perfectly well on her own.”
Since posting the lengthy status seven hours ago, Manson’s post has been shared a staggering 9000 times, with hundreds agreeing with her choice words, some questioning the likelihood of whether Kanye would have the balls to pull a similar stunt on much more aggressive rockstars of the past like Axl Rose (obviously not.)
Despite the fact that Kanye has since stated that he “loves Beck”, there has been no apology, and as for Beck, the dual Grammy award winner doesn’t really care, speaking of the entire situation “I still love [West] and think he’s genius. I aspire to do what he does.”
