Back in the ‘90s and ‘00s, it was hard to escape Gerling. With tracks such as the alt-rock anthem ‘Death To The Apple Gerls’, ambient gem ‘Enter, Spacecapsule’, and the verified dancefloor hit ‘Dust Me Selecta’, the group were all over the festival circuit and the annual Hottest 100 countdown.

Now, over a decade since the band’s breakup, frontman Darren Cross has embarked upon a new crowdfunding campaign for his second solo album, PEACER.

With Darren Cross having turned his attention to a number of different projects over the last decade, including The E.L.F., Betty Airs, and most recently as one half of folk duo Jep And Dep, he released his debut solo album, _Xantastic, back in 2016.

“I have been creating music now for nearly 30 years,” explains Cross. “I have devoted most of my free time to the craft.”

“I think my latest album is my greatest body of work I have ever brought into this world. As I am 100% independent and I write, record and produce all the music and videos at my own home studio – finding the time to pay for all of this is sometimes tricky – hence the Pozible campaign.”

Featuring guest appearances from Jep And Dep’s Jessica Cassar, DIY pioneer R. Stevie Moore, and Courtney Barnett percussionist Dave Mudie, the record is a mix of Nick Drake-inspired indie-folk, and the more traditional styles with which Cross made a name for himself. “It’s more upbeat, indie I guess,” Cross explained, noting that half the album originated in the form of demos made with Gerling as far back as 2004.

Now, with the album all recorded (and looking just as good as you would expect from a musician of his caliber), Darren Cross has launched a crowdfunding campaign to help with the production of the vinyl and CD editions of the album, in addition to touring costs, funding video clips, and a documentary which aims to showcase the creative process behind the album.

The Pozible campaign is open now, and is set to run until next month. With a range of purchasing options ranging from digital and physical copies of the album, a Gerling vinyl pack for hardcore collectors, and even a house show, there’s something available for everyone who loves some brilliant homegrown tunes.
