Since dropping their cripplingly successful debut album Zaba in 2014 it’s safe to say UK indie-rockers Glass Animals have gained nothing short of meteoric success. A staple of indie stations world-wide, the groups cryptic falsetto and unique brand of technicoloured escapism has always resonated with Australian audiences.

Now with the release of their new single ‘Life Itself’, Glass Animals are once again veering off into unexplored territory, reintroducing the bands sound to Aussie audiences with a distinctly off-kilter twist.

“Things have changed a lot for us over the past two years” explains lead singer and producer Dave Bayley.

“All of it made me want to think about people, and write something rawer and more human. ‘Life Itself’ is one of those. It’s a guy who was born a bit strange, and struggles to become part of society”.

Glass Animals die-hards can rest easy, ‘Life Itself’ is just a taste of the groups highly anticipated sophomore LP How To Be A Human Being, currently receiving the final coat of studio polish before its release later this year.

Definitely more than meets the eye, the album’s lead single is a purring, immersive monstrosity under the hood. Rich with spacious production, clean cutting guitar emotes and anchored in the lush vocal harmonies and oozing synth lines of the tracks chorus.

Underlying hip hop influences come to the fore with the tracks hypnotic beat, emulation of vinyl tone and use of jarring yet perfectly matched samples. Looping over and over for almost a full minute until the vocals swoon in the tracks eclectic rhythmic foundation elevates Life Itself from a generic indie jam to a masterful piece of boppy psychedelic-pop production.
