Glass Animals hit song ‘Heat Waves’ has just broken a Billboard Hot 100 record for the longest time to reach No. 1 since entering the chart.

‘Heat Waves’ which was released back in 2020 by the Oxford group, Glass Animals, has just reached the No. 1 spot in its 59th week since entering the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This record-breaking rise to the peak shatters the previous bearer of that crown of 35 weeks on the survey, set by Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ in December 2019.

‘Heat Waves’ unprecedented run saw it ruling over a variety of radio formats as well as streaming services and platforms such as Tik Tok.

Billboard describes their service and how their platform works as such, “The Hot 100 blends all-genre U.S. streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay and sales data. All charts (dated March 12, 2022) will update on Billboard.com tomorrow (March 8). For all chart news, you can follow @billboard and @billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram.”

The Glass Animals hit song was released by Wolf Tone/Polydor/Republic Records and becomes the 1,134th No. 1 in the 63 years that Billboard Hot 100 has been around. ‘Heat Waves’ is both the first leader and entry into the chart for the quartet, which is comprised of Dave Bayley, Edmund Irwin-Singer, Drew MacFarlane, and Joe Seaward.

On top of their record-breaking song, the group was also nominated for best new artist at this year’s Grammy Awards. The group was formed in 2010 and made its first appearance on Billboard’s charts in 2014.
