Italian masters of both progressive rock and cinematic horror, Goblin, are returning to Australia for two very special headline shows in Melbourne and Sydney this July, performing their influential symphonic scores to horror movie classics Suspiria, Dawn Of The Dead, Deep Red and Roller.

Originally named Cherry Five, the Italian outfit recorded one eponymous progressive rock LP before they were called in by film director Dario Argento as a replacement for composer Giorgio Gaslini on his film Profondo Rosso after conflict with the horror master. They changed their name to Goblin and rewrote most of the film’s score, including its famous theme.

A year later, in 1976, after a reshuffle in their lineup they released a second instrumental prog rock collection in Roller before teaming up again with Argento for Suspirira. Many more soundtracks and concept albums followed, including the score for the European version of George A. Romero’s 1978 cult zombie film Dawn Of The Dead.

After many more lineup changes and departures of bandmates, there was a partial reunion courtesy of Argento’s 1982 film Tenebrae. Their final collaboration with the Italian director came in 2000 with the film Non Ho Sonno (Sleepless).

Goblin returned to Europe to perform a series of live concerts in 2009, three years later, they performed Suspiria live for the first time in 35 years at the Australian Centre For The Moving Image as part of last year’s Melbourne Music Week. After three sold-out shows (including the impressive sold out show at the Melbourne Town Hall), the performance was widely acclaimed as a career high for the band after 30 years of crafting spine tingling soundtracks and celluloid nightmares.

Now off the back of that performance, Goblin will be bringing their dramatic atmosphere of suspense and palpable prog to life again with two special audio and visual feasts in a one-of-a-kind concert experience that should not be missed.

Don’t miss Goblin this July playing Suspiria, Dawn Of The Dead, Deep Red and Roller live.
