Organisers for Melbourne Music Week, organised by the official City Of Melbourne for the 16-24 November this year, have revealed the first of their eclectic lineup today; and it’s a bit of a doozy for music-lovers who like their styles a little left-of-centre.
Leading the pack is cult Italain prog-rock act, GOBLIN. Best known for their 70s film soundtrack work, the cult band will be making their Australian debut at the festival. They’ll also be “completely exclusive to Melbourne Music Week”, playing a one-off show at the Melbourne Town Hall.
French tastemakers, HOUSSE DE RACKET, of the super-hip Kitsuné label are also on the bill; with the pair of electro-rock revivalists bringing their “dancefloor devistation” to Melbourne’s CBD. Other international acts featured on the lineup are loop-heavy LA act TEENGIRL FANTASY, Ninja Tune producer ESKMO and San Francisco trio PILLOWTALK.
Local colour will be supplied in the form of euophoric quartet CRAYON FIELDS, Flying Nun Record revivalists THE TWERPS, sonic laureate KIRIN J. CALLINAN and electronic sophisticates COLLARBONES, who have just released new single ‘Missing’ along with announcing their new album, Die Young (which you can view an album teaser for below).
Beyond the music, Melbourne Music Week will feature 90+ events featuring around 200 acts in concerts, performances, workshops and exclusive screenings, including the debut of Where? House, essentially a “mysterious pop-up flagship venue… on a scale never before seen or attempted in [Melbourne].”
More acts and events will be announced on September 19 from City Of Melbourne, the same day that pre-sale tickets go on sale.
Full program details will be announced shortly after on October 3rd. Full updates and announcements will be available from the Melbourne Music Week blog.
