Revealed in the 2015-16 Victorian State Budget, the Labour Government have committed to putting $50 million toward a trial of 24-hour public transport in Melbourne on Friday and Saturday nights for the next two years, and it’s prepped to kick-in by New Year’s Eve 2015, as Fairfax report.
This is a major win for any and all residing in Melbourne, but a huge score for live music fans in the Victorian capital, such a change could see an increase in the amount of punters attending shows and late night gigs in all areas of the city, potentially revitalising many suburbs with floundering nightlife culture and live music scenes.
How many times have you been tight on funds and therefore had to bail from a gig early to make that last tram home, resulting in you missing out on the absolutely insane encore that everyone won’t shut up about? Or been forced to forgo those last couple of pints because a cab, that you’ve waited ages for, is going to sting you for a fair stack of your hard-earned spondula?
