It’s been a few years since fans have had the chance to see Birds Of Tokyo on a full national tour, but now, the Perth rockers are hitting the road this September in support of their latest single, ‘Good Lord’.

Back in 2016, Birds Of Tokyo released their fifth studio album, Brace. Since then, we’ve received not a whole lot more from the Perth group.

While they’ve sporadically played live, we received the single ‘Unbreakable’ last year, before they blessed us with the emotional new single, ‘Good Lord’, back in February.

A haunting tune, the group noted in a statement that the tune is a rather raw rendering of the breakdown of frontman Ian Kenny’s marriage.

“To be honest it’s been a rollercoaster couple of years”, Kenny explained. “I was basically in pieces when we were writing this song and maybe that intensity explains why it’s striking such a chord with people.”

“It’s great that something good can come out of something bad – funny how often that happens if you can just get through the rough patches in life.”

Despite the unhappy emotions that spawned the tune, ‘Good Lord’ appears to have resonated with listeners all over, sitting at #1 on iTunes, the top five on radio airplay charts, and quickly rising up the Spotify and Apple Music.

Now, to celebrate this good news, Birds Of Tokyo have announced The Good Lord Tour.

Their first national headline tour since 2016, these dates will see the group hitting up Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, and Melbourne, before wrapping things up in Sydney on September 21st.

If you’re wondering what these live shows are going to sound like, it looks as though you might be able to expect a few more emotive tunes coming your way as 2019 continues.

“We’ve still got at least three more new tracks that explore the breakup experience from various angles so there’s going to be a bit of a theme running through our stuff for the rest of this year,” explains guitarist Adam Spark.

“It’s cheaper than therapy to use music to get this stuff off our chests – we’re really lucky that way.”
