It’s been a long time coming, but over ten years on from their last visit to the country, English virtual band Gorillaz are heading back to Australia for a run of headline dates.
Having joined the prospective 2021 edition of Splendour in The Grass back in mid-2020, Gorillaz have stayed true to their plans of making a long-awaited return to Australia, remaining as headliners of the forthcoming 2022 edition, and now making further plans for shows while in the country.
Announced today, Gorillaz are set to complement their 2022 festival appearance with a pair of headline dates in Melbourne and Sydney. Performing at Melbourne’s John Cain Arena on July 24th, the group will wrap up their local visit with a headline show at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on July 26th. These dates will follow Gorillaz’s opening night performance at Splendour in The Grass on July 22nd.
The forthcoming live shows will mark the first time Gorillaz have appeared in Australia since their debut visit back in 2010 as part of their third album, Plastic Beach. Since then, a number of new projects have arrived, with 2020 bringing with it their latest album, Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez. Just last month, Gorillaz also shared their latest EP, with Meanwhile serving as a celebration of England’s Notting Hill Carnival.
Tickets to Gorillaz’s upcoming headline dates go on sale from 9am local time on Wednesday, October 6th, with pre-sale tickets available from Secret Sounds from 9am local time on Tuesday, October 5th.
