In the lead up to their Friday night headline slot at Glastonbury this weekend where they replaced U2 who pulled out after Bono injured his back, Damon Albarn has promised the whole kit n’ caboodle of Gorillaz’ rolling thunder revue of special guests which have collaborated with the cartoon band over the years. Speaking to London radio station Xfm, Albarn promised: “Everyone. The full set. At this moment, on Tuesday, everyone is coming. But that doesn’t mean by Friday, we may have a few casualties on the way.”

The puts forward tantalizing prospect of an all star guest lineup of De la Soul, Mos Def, Shaun Ryder (who’s confirmed he’s going), Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals, the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Snoop Dogg, Mark E Smith and maybe even Lou Reed, who appeared at the band’s Roundhouse show last month. This will be in addition to the house band of The Clash’s Mick Jones and Paul Simonon. “There’s more visuals, more songs, more guests,” trumpeted Damon. “I really didn’t expect to be going back this year, it’s an incredible honour… And I think it’s magic.”
