Gotye made his triumphant return to television screens across the United States over the weekend after a couple of blockbuster weeks saw his single ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ shoot up the charts to the highly coveted spot of #2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The singer songwriter appeared with fellow Melbourne-based singer Kimbra on the popular television skit show Saturday Night Live to perform his breakthrough smash hit. It’s an honour usually bestowed upon well established artists, especially after Lana Del Rey’s train wreck performance earlier this year..

The appearance is the second on US television the duo have made since they appeared earlier in the year on Jimmy Kimmel Live, an appearance that was nothing short of a miracle given Kimbra’s busy schedule.

Not wanting to miss the chance of a lifetime to perform on a television chat show in the United States but already booked to perform at the Big Day Out, Kimbra and her team hatched an audacious plan to fly over to Los Angeles immediately after Kimbra’s set at the Melbourne Big Day Out.

They rushed to the studio to perform for four minutes live on television, and then leave immediately for the airport again the fly to Adelaide where they landed with just an hour to spare.

His appearance on the popular Saturday Night Live comes off the back of the song also being featured on Glee and American Idol, topping off what has been a huge year for the singer.

The success of that single has also helped propel Kimbra into the spotlight. The New Zealand-bron singer must be thanking her lucky stars as she prepares to embark on an Australian tour after it came out last month she wasn’t Gotye’s original choice.
