Yesterday it was revealed that Grimes is the new face of the Adidas by Stella McCartney autumn/winter 2019 collection. The collaboration focuses on sustainability and environmental consciousness — topics both McCartney and Grimes have been outspoken about throughout their career.
The groundbreaking designer heralded Grimes as “the perfect embodiment of the adidas by Stella McCartney core values.”
“She is passionate and outspoken about protecting the planet.”
To acknowledge her collaboration with McCartney, Grimes took to Instagram to share a detailed breakdown of her unorthodox wellness regime. A routine that features an intimidating dosage of supplements, 2-4 hours a day in a deprivation tank to allow her to “‘astro-glide’ to other dimensions – past, present, and future” and a healthy dose of daily sword fighting lessons.
Perhaps the most confronting revelation in the post was the startling confession that Grimes removed part of her eyeball to “cure seasonal depression.”
“I have also eliminated all blue light from my vision through an experimental surgery that removes the top film of my eyeball and replaces it with an orange ultra-flex polymer that my friend and I made in the lab this past winter as a means to cure seasonal depression,” the post read.
The thing is, because this is Grimes, we can’t be sure whether this is just one level of her infinite irony and the entire post is just her way of ruthlessly disseminating influencer wellness culture; or if she’s actually removed a bit of her eyeball.
The musician once locked herself inside a room for nine days without food, sleep or visitors whilst creating her third studio record Visions.
“Once you hit day nine, you start accessing some really crazy shit,” she told The Guardian. “You have no stimulation, so your subconscious starts filling in the blanks. I started to feel like I was channelling spirits. I was convinced my music was a gift from God. It was like I knew exactly what to do next, as if my songs were already written.”
