After what feels like an aeon of teasing, art pop princess Grimes has officially announced her fifth studio album. In a lengthy post on Instagram, Grimes has revealed that her forthcoming LP will be called Miss_Anthropocene. Grimes has described the record as being “a concept album about the anthropomorphic goddess of climate Change.” Which is a concept we don’t quite understand but we love it anyway.

“Each song will be a different embodiment of human extinction as depicted through a Pop star Demonology. The first song ‘we appreciate power’, introduced the pro-AI-propaganda girl group who embody our potential enslavement/destruction at the hands of Artificial General intelligence,” Grimes explained.

Grimes has teased the possibility of dropping either a “synth-based” EP or a few singles before the album’s release. Because the record is “mostly ethereal nu metal (ish).” Which is music to our ears. If there’s one thing this world needs now, it’s the power of nü metal.

Currently, the album has no release date. Grimes released her last record, Art Angels, back in 2015. She has dropped two songs in the past few months; a demo for track ‘Pretty Dark’ off an AR musical she is working on, as well as the ‘We Appreciate Power.’
