Harry Shearer is the subject of a lengthy profile piece by GQ, about Spinal Tap’s ongoing legal dramas, but while that battle appears set to stretch out into the foreseeable future, it appears that more music in on the horizon.
Shearer is recording a solo album as Spinal Tap’s bassist Derek Smalls, which will be titled Smalls Change (brilliantly clumsy name too, in the manner of most Spinal Tap pursuits).
The album will be out later this year, and features Steve Vai, Peter Frampton, and Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen, who takes vocals on ‘Memo To Willie’, which Shearer calls “a little ditty about erectile dysfunction.”
Other songs include ‘It Don’t Get Old’, about the joys of touring as an aging rock star, and ‘MRI’.
