Hundreds of Aussie musicians recently banded together to support a noble cause – to both raise awareness and rid Australia of violence against women, and it now appears there’s another, albeit much different cause musos are also getting behind.
The guys at Melbourne’s Catfish and Sparrow’s Philly Cheesesteaks are working in tandem with Melbourne Academy together hosting a small fundraising event which will see the likes of both Australian and the UK artists perform next Friday 10 April.
The group have come together in the hopes of securing enough funds to expand a small North Fitzroy music studio for students of Melbourne Academy, a flexible learning centre where disadvantaged youth can obtain a VCAL and Cert II in music in a safe environment.
Melbourne Academy currently has a tiny studio that has been pieced together from borrowed and donated gear, however both the staff and students are hoping to expand on this, providing a better musical future by facilitating the professional recording process and producing a higher standard of recordings.
Performers on the night include The Perfections, Motley (UK), Express MC (NSW), Rydah (UK), Yoko Bono & DJ Selecta Suz da Fuze with all proceeds from the door charge along with a generous percentage of beer and parrow’s Philly Cheesesteak sold go into helping Melbourne Academy’s little studio, which hopes to upgrade to a SE 2200T microphone, a reflection filter, a sampler, headphones and music programs such as Logic and Reason, as well as some much needed sound proofing.
If this sounds like something you may be interested in checking out, the event will be held on Friday the 10th of April at Catfish, 30-32 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy and if you’re feeling extra generous, there’s a direct donate link right here.
