The folk of Yelgun’s North Byron Parklands must be counting their lucky stars that both Splendour In The Grass and The Falls Festival shifted to their grounds for their respective musical jamborees, with an astonishing amount of revenue having flowed through the north-New South Wales region for 2014.
The figures arrive from RPS Australia East, who revealed the two events generated $41.4-million in economic output for the area, with Byron Shire accounting for an impressive $24.1-million worth of this output, as Echo reports.
The two mega festivals have said to bring 308 new full-time jobs, with Parklands spokesperson Viv Fantin commenting, “Of these positions created, Byron Shire residents filled 99 EFT jobs while an additional 34 positions were filled by northern rivers residents.”
“The events combined generated 22,900 room-night stays in Byron Shire accommodation and 6,125 room nights in other parts of northern NSW (not including camping on- site at Parklands).”
In addition to this, it is said that over $43,000 has been given to community organisations whilst a total of $400,000 has been donated overall.

Despite such fantastic results for both the community and the music festivals, the relationship between host and event has seen turbulence, with the local government slamming North Byron Parklands with noise breach fines for Splendour In The Grass back in July.

With such positive monetary and economic gains Byron has witnessed with the arrival of these two events, we’re sure a little volume problem won’t prove heavily detrimental to any future relations and much like the legendary Byron Bay Blues Fest, these two festivals only add further justification to a visit of Australia’s favourite coast.
Splendour In The Grass moved from Woodfordia to the Parklands in 2012, whilst the Falls Festival expanded locations in 2013/14 to the area after continually killing it in Lorne and Marion Bay of Victoria and Marion Bay, respectively.
