‘Darwinism’ is the first single from Holy Holy’s eagerly-awaited second album, and it’s a blinder.

The track is a gradually-intensifying collage of melodies and textures that pushes the band’s creative boundaries further than before with the new inclusion of a horn section, resulting in what the band describe as “a big, orchestral mess”.

While the title could easily refer to the band’s musical evolution, singer Tom carroll describe’s the track’s lyrics as being about “how a relationship evolves over time”, claiming influence from cartoonist Michael Leunig’s ‘Seven Types of Ordinary Happiness’.

‘Darwinism’ is out today through Wonderlick Records, and has us looking forward to hearing the rest of the album, although we’ll have to wait until 2017. You can no doubt hear some of it in advance, however, as Holy Holy will be touring the UK, Europe and Australia this year, starting in September.
