H O L Y H O L Y is a musical project that brings together two composers in two different cities: Award winning singer songwriter Timothy Carroll from Brisbane and guitarist and composer Oscar Dawson from Melbourne. The pair crafted their debut record while living in Stockholm and Berlin in 2011 demoing the tracks in apartments, stairwells and snow covered studios of those two great cities. The pair have since returned to Australia and recorded the full-length debut with reclusive producer and collaborator Matt Redlich (Emma Louise, Hungry Kids of Hungary, The Trouble With Templeton, Ball Park Music).

“IMPOSSIBLE LIKE YOU” is a very striking first taste of a very special record, with Timothy Carroll saying: “Lyrically the song examines the desire to believe in something. Belief in the impossible as an explanation for the incredible.”

The band are excited to take their new music on tour, announcing a tour with the incredible Ainslie Wills, and shows with good friends The Trouble With Templeton.

H O L Y H O L Y’s debut album was recorded live to tape, and is lyrical and story based, as much of Carroll’s solo work has been, but also revels in huge, full band builds and crescendos. Lush production abounds, mixing distorted duelling guitars with warm, close harmonies, reverb soaked piano lines and wild percussive rhythms. It is both epic and raw, simple and complex. The band has had several special guests surrounding the project either recording on the album or touring live with the band, including incredibly talented drummer Ryan Strath (who also plays with both Hungry Kids and Andy Bull), and Graham Ritchie (Emma Louise), who will be playing bass with the band on their upcoming tour.

The band will be playing in their full 5-piece glory for all the shows announced today with the exception of Sydney, where Tim & Oscar will be playing two special, intimate, stripped back shows.

Joining the band on their Impossible Like You Tour is Melbourne melodist Ainslie Wills. After releasing her “haunting and uplifting” debut album, You Go Your Way, I’ll Go MineAinslie Wills has been honing her live show – a mix of incomparable vocal talents and sharp songwriting nous with musical partner Lawrence Folvig. “Ainslie Wills may be on the emerging end of the career spectrum, but proclaiming her brilliance now isn’t jumping the gun – it’s right on target,” wrote our Tone Deaf reviewer of Wills‘ Melbourne launch show for You Go Your Way, I’ll Go Mine.
