Show me the money! Hunters and Collectors are set to reform for a one off gig, revealing that they received an offer that was just too good to turn down. Considering that they’d be millionaires if they had a dollar for every time a bunch of drunk bogan blokes got all homoerotic and sang ‘Throw Your Arms Around Me’ with their arms around each other, it’s probably fair enough that they pick up this pay cheque.
It’s also the right kind of gig for all that bogan love as well – the V8 Supercars race meeting at Sydney’s Olympic Park that runs from 2-3rd of December. According to front man Mark Seymour, it was a combination of an offer too good to refuse and the sheer scale of the event, which will also feature John Farnham playing his only outdoor show of the year and the likes of Noiseworks, James Reyne, Jebediah and Bliss N Eso.
The four headline acts are slotted in to perform Saturday 3 December at the Olympic Stadium, while the Jebs and Bliss n’ Eso will perform Friday 2 December.
The band have reformed once before, to play Sydney’s leg of the Sound Relief charity concerts in 2009. Seymour told Daily SPA of their reasoning for playing only their second gig since splitting up in 1998. “We got an email from our manager a while ago with the offer. He gets numerous offers, which I wasn’t aware of but I am now, but this one was big and on the scale of the Sound Relief concert… If we hadn’t done that, we wouldn’t be doing this.”
He said that the band aren’t that keen on palying live these days but this event had piqued their interest. “That would be the realistic approach… I have no idea if another [opportunity] will come along.”
Justifying their reforming for the cash, he said “We’ve always been a fairly robust group, but struggled to have that commercial credibility. We seemed to build audiences through our career and by the end were playing to big audiences.The guys organising this must have vivid memories of those big audiences and think it will work. I think it will work. I reckon it will be really powerful and relaxing… It’s the right fit. We’ll be playing to people who know us, and a lot of them.”
Tickets went on sale at 9am today.
