Legendary musician Iggy Pop has voiced his opinion and signed a petition urging Florida senators to protect exotic cats.
Iggy Pop is no stranger to the animal kingdom, long acting as an advocate for animals rights. 2017 saw both him and Nick Cave team up with Peta in a stance for animals rights.
“If everyone acted like the people our dogs think we are and depend on us to be,” said PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk, “the world would be a far kinder place.”
Now, Iggy Pop has once again spoken for those without voices to tell Florida senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott that they need to co-sponsor the Big Cat Public Safety Act. This new legislation would ensure that private ownership of exotic, large cats would be illegal.
“The Big Cat Public Safety Act, which has bipartisan support in both the house and senate, is aimed at protecting big cats from abuse and neglect by prohibiting private possession of these wild animals, and banning risky public encounters with them,” Iggy Pop detailed via a statement.
“Co-sponsoring this commonsense bill will show the Senators’ commitment to the safety of Floridians and respect for exotic wildlife.”
With private ownership coming into the limelight like in Netflix’s Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness, the loopholes and indecencies of the private cat ownership shone brightly prompting many stars to speak for change.

The iconic rocker Iggy Pop is pressing forward with the petition that is co-written by Gabriela Cowperthwaite and the Animal Legal Defense Fund which “files high-impact lawsuits to protect animals from harm, provides free legal assistance and training to prosecutors in their fight against animal cruelty, supports animal protection legislation, and provides resources and opportunities to law students and professionals to advance the field of animal law.”
