Rap-metal band Ill Nino have been a consistent force on the touring scene for years now, but it looks like things are about to change.

Last week the band took to social media to announce that vocalist Christian Machado and guitarists Ahrue Luster and Diego Verduzco had all left the band.

In their wake,  vocalist Marcos Leal (Shattered Sun), lead guitarist Jes DeHoyos (Sons of Texas) and rhythm guitarist Sal Dominguez (Upon a Burning Body) where announced as new members, joining drummer Dave Chavarri & bassist Laz Pina.

The new lineup has press pics and even a new single, Sangre.

Despite new press pics, new music, new everything, it seems that Cristain, Ahrue and Diego still believe they are part of the group, according to the following statement they gave to Blabbermouth.

“To all our family, friends, and fans, contrary to what you may have heard, Ahrue, Diego and I have NOT left Ill Nino and remain very dedicated to the band and all our fans. We’re excited to be working on new music, partnerships, and opportunities. We will have more info for you all soon.”

The new look Ill Nino
Public records show that the three outcasts filed a trademark application on November 6, 2018 in the United States to gain protection for the name.
One week later, Pina filed a request for express abandonment “without the authorization, knowledge and consent” of the greater part of the group.
Chavarri then also submitted an application, claiming that he was the sole owner of the Ill Nino name.
Confused? This is why you should work these things out with your band before you become a professional company.
It seems that the legal battle in the metal world has been billed for 2019, which is a shame given the quality of the new tune released (surprisingly, knowing how fragile these lineup changes can be).
We thought we’d seen enough of these court cases last year but things look like their going to get pretty messy in the coming months.
