Debuting in early 2017 with their single, ‘New Year, Old Me’, five-man band Oaks from Western Sydney have only been improving ever since.

The song was a perfect way to debut the band and show the world what they have to offer, offering up a buffet of upbeat melancholy. The guitar performances were tight and the synergy between frontman James Graham and the rest of the band was strikingly clear.

Oaks have been heralded as “a breath of fresh air” in the pop-punk music scene, which has seen an incredible increase in popularity over the last few years.

Since their debut, they have worked hard performing in live gigs and recording new content to improve on their already existing style and sound.

A hidden diamond in the rough of Sydney’s incredible music scene, Oaks have proven themselves to be a band worth listening to, with enough staying power to last them for multiple years to come.

Since releasing ‘New Year, Old Me’ the band have released two EP’s, Space to Grow and Close the Distance (which features the incredible ‘Losing Breath’ featuring Matt Doherty of Our Past Days.)

This Western Sydney band takes the pop-punk genre and does it justice. Their musicality and passion is visible in their music and makes it all the better to listen to knowing just how much effort and dedication has been put in.

Songs such as ‘Hiraeth’ showcase how the band’s technicality has improved since their small beginnings. Fast-paced and addictive riffs fill the song with energy, as the band never relents in showcasing how much they’ve grown and learned to work with each other even better across the years.

While they have been silent for a little while, there are stirrings of new music in the works.

Hopefully, like their previous work, they can create something special that showcases the effort and talent that has been accumulating over the last year since Close the Distance was released in 2018.

If you haven’t heard of this band, and need some Western Sydney magic in your life, you should definitely give them a listen and get familiar with their sound before they release some new stuff.

And then, you can be the one who knew the band “before they were big”.
