After teasing fans yesterday, The Strokes have finally returned with their first new music since 2013’s Comedown Machine. The band’s new EP, Future Present Past, arrives just in time for their headline slot at Splendour In The Grass.
The EP is comprised of three new original songs — ‘Drag Queen’, ‘OBLIVIUS’, and ‘Threat of Joy’ — and a remix of ‘OBLIVIUS’ by drummer Fab Moretti. The EP’s release coincides with the band’s exclusive signing to Cult Records, frontman Julian Casablancas’s label.
The EP, recorded over the past year in Austin and New York with producer Gus Oberg, can now be streamed in full via Spotify and will be available as a hard copy from 3rd June, with several pre-order bundles available over on the Cult Records website.
Opening number ‘Drag Queen’ is an avant-garde, New Wave-style tune reminiscent of Casablancas’s work with his band The Voidz, ‘OBLIVIUS’ is more akin to recent Strokes material as heard on Comedown Machine, whilst ‘Threat of Joy’ could easily be a cut from Is This It.
