Geez, you’ve got to ask, whose good idea was this? Japanese boy band Kishidan have copped a hiding over their decision to wear Nazi SS outfits on stage during a recent MTV broadcast. MTV and Sony Music have been forced to apologise after appearing on a show wearing Nazi SS outfits adorned with Nazi symbols such as the Iron Cross, eagle and death skull. Unsurprisingly, Jewish advocate groups such as the Simon Wiesenthal Centre have slammed the group for their actions. Rabbi Abraham Cooper hit out at the band saying “There is no excuse for such an outrage”, in a written protest he issued to the band’s management company Sony Music Artists Japanese entertainment group Avex and MTV Japan.
Cooper further stated that he was “fully aware that many young Japanese are woefully uneducated” about the genocide committed by Nazi Germany and Japan during the World War 2. Naturally he reminded the companies behind the act that “…global entities like MTV and Sony Music should know better”. Sony Music in Japan was forced to issue a statement last week saying “We deeply regret and apologise for the distress it has caused the Simon Wiesenthal Centre and all concerned.”
