A recent request made by Jay-Z and Beyoncé to rent out Italy’s iconic Colosseum has been denied, presumably marking the first time that anyone has said no to the hip-hop power couple.
Just over a month ago, Jay-Z and Beyoncé did what they do best and dropped a surprise album full of bangers. Titled Everything Is Love, the record was released under the name The Carters, and happened to arrive just five dates into the pair’s ambitious On The Run II tour.
While the record was a pretty huge surprise to any music fan, it was the video for lead single ‘Apeshit’ that had most fans talking. Filmed in France’s stunning Louvre, the clip had people wondering just how did the pair manage to not only film such a huge video in secret, but how did they manage to rent out the Louvre, of all places? Well now fans have been given a bit of an insight into that process, and what might be next for the iconic duo.
As Spin notes, the Italian newspaper Il Messaggero recently revealed that Beyoncé had her request to rent out Rome’s Colosseum denied, though the reasons for her request are currently unknown.
Beyoncé’s original request reportedly asked for the Colosseum to be rented out on July 7th and 8th, which would have coincided with the Italian leg of the On The Run II tour. While no reason for the request has surfaced, many fans have speculated that another music video might just be in the works, with Jay-Z and Beyoncé seemingly trying to give us a sneaky view into Europe’s biggest landmarks through their music videos.
However, it seems that there was a rather simple reason for the refusal, with the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage explaining that scientist Alberto Angela had already booked the location. Additionally, they revealed that the request had been made on short notice, noting that the Colosseum is a “very complicated place”.
However, this might not be the end of this whole saga, with a new request by Beyoncé for an unknown date currently under review. So who knows, we might end up seeing an Italian music video from the pair in the future, but given how packed their schedule is with the current tour, it may still be quite a few months off.
