Bad Reputation, the new documentary focusing on the life and times of punk pioneer Joan Jett, now has an official trailer, ahead of its September release date.
Earlier this year, attendees at the annual Sundance Film Festival were lucky enough to see the premiere of Bad Reputation, but normal punters such as ourselves were told we would have to wait quite some time.
Written by Joel Marcus and directed by Kevin Kerslake (who brought you classic ’90s videos by Nirvana, R.E.M., Green Day, Stone Temple Pilots, and many more), the film is set to be released through Magnolia Pictures on September 28th.
“Joan Jett has a pure rock and roll heart and her influence, both musically and as a role model to a generation, has been profound,” explained Magnolia Pictures president Eamonn Bowles back in February. “Kevin’s film beautifully realizes her journey.”
Featuring archival footage and interviews from Iggy Pop, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, Bikini Kill’s Kathleen Hanna, and much more, the film promises to dig deep into the musical conception of Joan Jett, discussing her influence and showcasing just why she is one of the most vital figures to have ever picked up a guitar.
The release date of the documentary comes only a matter of months before Joan Jett hits up Aussie shores with The Blackhearts for the Red Hot Summer Tour, which kicks off in January of 2019.
Featuring Jimmy Barnes, The Living End, Richard Clapton, Diesel, and Chocolate Starfish, the Red Hot Summer Tour is undoubtedly set to be one of the biggest rock festivals to tour Australia this summer.
Bad Reputation is set to be released in theatres and on-demand streaming services from September 28th, so be sure to mark that date in your diary and check out what is shaping up to be one of the best rock documentaries of the year.
