After 50 years in the game, there’s no stopping English metal pioneers Judas Priest, with the group revealing they’re already working on their next album.

Last month saw Judas Priest hit up our shores for the second edition of the Australian Download Festival.

Kicking off their Aussie appearances on the one-year anniversary of their latest album, Firepower, fans of the band watched in awe as the group delivered a powerful set that showcased why they’re such an iconic and celebrated band.

However, as the group celebrate their 50th year together, it appears that a new record might factor into these celebrations, with frontman Rob Halford explaining that the band are already hard at work on album #19.

Speaking to the Do You Know Jack? podcast (via Blabbermouth), Halford revealed that guitarist Glenn Tipton is already writing songs for their next release.

“Glenn’s back in the U.K. now making riffs,” Rob Halford began. “We have massive archives of riffs. It never stops.”

“That’s the joy of Priest in terms of creativity – we never seem to slow down. And when you get a successful record like Firepower, that motivates you even further.”

“Any band will tell you that,” he continued. “You feed off the energy of what your fans are giving you. You wanna see your fans again and you wanna bring your fans something different next time. So that means making another metal song, which, amplify that by 10 ideas, and you’ve got another album.”

“So that’s the plan. There will be another album from Priest in the very near future.”

News of the group’s new album comes just over a year since it was revealed that Glenn Tipton had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, and would cease wide-scale touring with the band.

“True to the metal spirit of ‘the show must go on’ Glenn has requested Andy Sneap to fly the flag on stage for him,” the band explained in a statement.

“I want everyone to know that it’s vital that the Judas Priest tour go ahead and that I am not leaving the band – it’s simply that my role has changed,” Tipton added.
