Another day, another Kanye West rant.
Kanye West wrapped up his Australian leg of the Yeezus tour last night with a show in Brisbane. It was the final date for a tour that was unsurprisingly filled with controversy such as his mid-set rant about a retweet, his whirlwind trip to a Melbourne hospital, and more recently him humiliating two fans in wheelchairs in Sydney.

But in classic West style, he saved the best for last, and came out swinging against the media in his best rant of the tour yet proclaiming he won’t be forced into “some kind of fake apology.”
“Welcome to today’s news, ladies and gentlemen,” West sarcastically told to the audience according to The Daily Beast. “We got Americans getting killed on TV, we have kids getting killed every week in Chicago, we have unarmed people being killed by police officers, and we have Kanye West with an ice cream cone.”
West then went on to claim that the media’d coverage of him is “more sensationalised” than when covering stories that don’t concern him, adding “they got this thing where they want the masses, people who never even heard one of my albums, to somehow read a headline that reads negative and to think I’m a bad person or something.”

Kanye also poked fun at the idea of people being offended by him and his music.
“That’s my brand: I curse and I say really offensive things,” he said. “This is rap fucking music. This is real music. This is real expression. This is real artistry. An artist’s career doesn’t happen in a cycle of one week of news. An artist career happens in a lifetime — and if you’re a true artist, you’re willing to die for what you believe in.”
“All this demonising me, it ain’t gonna work after a while, so pick a new target, ‘cause I ain’t one of these dumb ass artist you’re used to. You come at me, I’m gonna take my platform and break this shit down for real intelligent people every night so they can understand, then we get back to the music.”
But Craig Wallace, of People With Disability Australia, isn’t as dismissive of the story.
“To call out people for not standing up, when they are disabled and cannot stand up, in front of thousands of people, is humiliating,” he told the Herald Sun. “What if it was a young person who’s coming to terms with their disability?”
“It’s arrogant to say every person in the audience needs to stand up just because you tell them to,” he continued. “Kanye West owes a duty of care and respect to his audience. It’s about courtesy and respect you give to an audience while performing in a public space.”
