Pop starlet Katy Perry is set to steal the King of Pop’s errrr, crown, with the release of her new single seeing her poised to be the first artist to score five number one singles on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart since Michael Jackson smashed it out with five number ones from the last decent record he made, 1987’s Bad. Her new single ‘Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),’ has already topped the Billboard pop charts and is set to cross over to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. She’s already had four number ones from the album, including ‘California Gurls’, ‘Teenage Dream’, ‘Firework’ and ‘E.T.’ and pundits predict that if ‘Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) is to go to number one as expected, a sixth single, ‘Peacock’ may be extracted from it.
Michael Jackson’s record was held for 24 years, with the five consecutive singles from Bad going to Number one on the Billboard Hot 100 including ‘I Just Can’t Stop Loving You’, ‘Bad’, ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’, ‘Man in the Mirror’ and ‘Dirty Diana’. Bad sold 30 million copies and saw 10 of the 11 songs on the album released as singles, although one was a promotional single and one was not released in the USA.
