Keith Urban paid a sweet tribute to Adele during a recent concert, performing a cover of her 2021 hit ‘Easy on Me’.
The country music icon posted a clip of his cover on social media. “Her writing, heart and soul is needed right now more than ever,” he wrote in the caption to his Instagram post. “For me, this ‘hymn’ is divinely timed. Thank you for being so raw @adele. We love you!”
“I would like to make a special dedication tonight, to somebody I just absolutely adore as a performer, as a songwriter, a trailblazer,” Keith can be heard telling the audience in the clip. “And I’m looking forward to seeing her when the time comes.”
Urban then launched into the tender ballad, accompanied only by his acoustic guitar, slightly reducing the tempo of Adele’s powerfully dramatic original version. “We love you Adele, oh yes we do,” he sings as his cover comes to a close.
His cover drew a lot of approval from fans. “I love your version more than Adele’s,” insisted one commenter. “You have to do something together,” was the hopeful suggestion of someone else. “That was so incredibly heartfelt,” wrote another.
Adele was embroiled in some mild controversy at the start of this year when she postponed her highly-anticipated Las Vegas residency just one day before it was due to begin on January 21st.
It was actually Urban who stepped in to aid the situation, adding several shows to his own Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. He’s set to play the iconic venue on March 30th, April 1st-2nd, and May 27th-29th. In December, Urban will then return to Australia for a huge arena tour (see full dates here).
