Sonic Youth co-founder Kim Gordon is gearing up to release some new music later this year, announcing her debut solo album, No Home Record.

When Sonic Youth broke up back in 2011, fans of the alt-rock icons were able to commiserate with not only the band’s vast back-catalogue, but also a healthy amount of solo records and side-projects from the group’s members.

While Thurston Moore shared his first solo album in 1995, Lee Ranaldo had been pumping out the solo records since 1987, while also working with William Hooker since the mid-’90s.

Although Kim Gordon had worked with Free Kitten since 1994, and released albums with Body/Head and Glitterburst over the last few years, both she and drummer Steve Shelley remained the only core members of the band to never release a solo album.

Now, that’s all about to change, with Gordon announcing the release of No Home Record earlier today.

Recorded at the Sphere Ranch in Los Angeles, No Home Record was produced by Justin Raisen, and comes alongside the premiere of a new music video for latest single, ‘Sketch Artist’.

Directed by Loretta Fahrenholz, the clip features Broad City actress Abbi Jacobson, and portrays Kim Gordon as a driver for a ride-share company called Unter.

While No Home Record is set to be released on October 13th, it will also include ‘Murdered Out’, a song that was released as Gordon’s first solo single back in 2016.

In related news, it was recently revealed that Kim Gordon had been forced to cancel her upcoming visit to Australia as part of the Melbourne Writers Festival and Sydney’s Antidote Festival.

Originally scheduled to make an appearance at the Sydney Opera House as part of an in-conversation event with Double J’s Myf Warhurst, Gordon was also set to appear in Melbourne to discuss her creative pursuits.

“Unfortunately, Kim Gordon can no longer appear… for health reasons,” a spokeswoman for the Opera House shared in a statement with the Sydney Morning Herald. “We offer Kim our full support and best wishes for a speedy recovery.”
