In October of last year we were given a brand new tune from Kimbra, which we hoped would be the first taste of her third record. After an almost solid year of waiting, the New Zealand singer has finally gifted us with new music, and details about her new LP, including a list of big names that have contributed to the new album.
As triple j reports, Kimbra recently premiered her brand new tune ‘Everybody Knows’, and spoke to Veronica and Lewis about her upcoming third record, Primal Heart. The Kiwi musician also talked about some of the big names that have been involved in the production of the new album, including producer John Congleton, Dirty Projectors, Skrillex, and the one and only Childish Gambino – though none are confirmed as having appearences on the record.
“There’s always been amazing people I’m working with and bringing into the circle but in a way I’ve been intentional about this record being quite a focus less on features and more about my message,” Kimbra said.
“It’s definitely been a journey of different people coming through the studio but less from the point of collaborations with other vocalists and more just bringing their sound in on the background… It’s more a cast of characters.”
While Kimbra is yet to give us a release date for her new record, she revealed that the new record was recorded in her home studio in New York, where she moved to from Los Angeles two year previously.
“I love it there. It’s made so much sense for me I think after LA, I really needed a bit of a change and New York is just, it’s really clicked with me,” she said.
While we might have just a little bit of time before we get Kimbra’s Primal Heart, we’re certainly keen on hearing the sort of music that the brilliant muso has in store for us.
