One honestly has to wonder when King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard find the time to sleep. The Melbourne psych collective are famously prolific and they’re about to give that word a whole new meaning.
The band are currently on tour in support of their latest studio album, Nonagon Infinity, which it should be noted is the band’s eighth full-length album in just four years.
But speaking to triple j, the band revealed that they’re actually planning on ramping up their commitment to releasing two albums per year by releasing four in 2017. No, seriously.
“We’re actually working on four separate projects at the moment, which hopefully we can release next year sometime,” King Gizz frontman Stu McKenzie told triple j‘s Gemma Pike.
“Four Gizzard albums, I guess next year, that’s the idea,” drummer Eric Moore added. According to Stu, “They’re all kind of distinct little ideas that we’ve been toying with for a little while.”
“Stu’s been chipping away at this record that we’ve tracked all the music for and it’s just the stage of putting together a few overdubs and get it mixed,” Eric explained.
Whilst all this is going on, the band are still working on their upcoming Nonagon Infinity movie, which we’ve already seen excerpts from in the form of two amazing music videos.
“That’s in the works too. Jason Galea, who works on most of our visual stuff, is working on animated section at the moment,” Eric told triple j. “But I haven’t seen Jase for the last two weeks.”
“Because he’s been editing pixels — living off dim sims and barbeque chips. I think the Nonagon movie is going to be pretty insane.” There’s no release date yet but we’re sure heads will explode when it drops.
