After warning us all that they could drop their third album of the year “at any point”, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have done just that, hitting us with Sketches of Brunswick East this morning in a bit of a surprise move.
Recorded in collaboration with Mile High Club, the album was dropped this morning and has already sold out of its 1000 white vinyl copies. The one-of-a-kind signed test pressing also sold overnight for a ridiculous sum, so you’ll be looking at grabbing on preowned if you have your heart set on the physical copy. The Smith Street Band have also been live-streaming the album all morning on Facebook (right now they’re sitting on their porch punching durries), having recently expressed their love for the Gizz, saying they want to cover them on triple j’s Like A Version.

King Gizzard were recently crate-diving over at the legendary Amoeba Music record store in the U.S., and talked us through a bunch of obscure records they picked up there (no word on how many copies of Sketches of East Brunswick Amoeba managed to get in stock).
The Gizz’s vinyl records have been extremely popular in the U.S., with Flying Microtonal Banana hitting #1 on the vinyl charts, and Murder of the Universe making it to #2, so hopefully they’ll see the same result for their third album of the year.
King Gizzard also fell just short of the top of the ARIA charts both times this year, first falling to The Waifs, then to the combined powers of Ed Sheeran and Lorde, but maybe third time’s a charm and this’ll be the album to make it all the way to the top.
With Sketches of Brunswick East out, King Gizzard fans still have one more album to look forward to in 2017, not to mention the band’s personal rock fest Gizzfest, which will be making its return from November 18 to December 4 this year.
