Peter Quaife, bassist with The Kinks during arguably their finest years has died aged 66. No cause of death has been reported but he is understood to have been undertaking kidney dialysis for a number of years. Quaife was a founding member of the band, playing on hits such as You Really Got Me, All Day and All of the Night and Dedicated Follower of Fashion, before leaving the band in 1969 after being unable to handle the notoriously fractured relationship between brothers Ray and Dave Davies. He formed another band named Mapleoak after leaving the Kinks which never took off, later making a career as a graphic designer. He performed a one off reunion gig with the Davies brothers in 1981 in Canada – alas a much rumoured reformation tour will remain just that.
